There was a poem at the horrible history show which said:
Chester and Leicester are Roman,
Scarborough and Peterborough are Saxon
Derby and Grimsby are Viking
We know our way around!
(I know I said that Derby and Corby are Viking which isn’t how it goes in the poem but it is still true. All Viking cities had ‘by’ at the end of them
I think that Peterborough and Scarborough are cities from the Saxons and Derby and Corby are from the Viking.
What makes you think that Archie?
Today I have been to the British museum and I have learnt that many cities’ name come from the Anglo-Saxons.
Examples:
Birmingham Beorma+inga+ham enclosure of the sons (or descendants) of Beorma
Oxford Oxon Ford Place where Oxon can cross the river
Warwick Weir+wic Dwelling by the weir
Great detective skills Imen
I went to a horrible history show at hackney and I cant remember it that well but I think they said that.
THATS SO INTRESTING LUCY I LOVE IT!
